Scamper’s Choice has several features that set it apart from mainstream brands.
- Milo is the main source of efficient energy. When processed through the roasting and popping, milo becomes an incredibly efficient source of energy for horses.
- Processing grain makes the nutrients more accessible.
- Popping the milo by roasting it starts the digestive process for the horse.
- Popping the milo increases the surface area of the grain so the digestive enzymes have better access to the nutritional portions since they don’t have to get through the grain’s harder outer shell.
- Roasting kills mold, mildew and many mycotoxins.
- Roasting reduces the amount of gastric acid needed to break down the food
The roasting process changes the site of digestion and absorption. The stomach is better able to process the roasted starches into energy. Changing the site of absorption also means more balanced energy levels for the horse. Scamper’s Choice smoothes out the absorption process through popping the milo and the horse doesn’t get the peaks and valleys, and has a balanced/maintained energy.
Scamper’s Choice releases the energy slowly and efficiently so you have very few metabolic problems and your horse has the energy needed to perform.
Scamper's Choice is balanced to work for a variety of horses in different stages of life and little supplementation is necessary.
Scamper’s Choice also has added fat for extra energy. Adding fat to the diet benefits the equine athlete in several ways:
- The volume of grain can be reduced because of the increased energy density of the feed.
- This is a safer way to feed because less grain decreases gastric upsets and the chance of grain-overload founder.
- Feeding high-fat diets helps adapt the horse to using body fat as an energy source. There’s more energy stored in the body as fat than any other energy source. This is advantageous during warm-up and certain types of exercise, specifically aerobic.
- Fat minimizes any negative impact the energy source can have on the horse’s attitude. Fat does not make a horse high, but it does give him consistency and stamina.
- Fats can have a positive impact on everything from inflammation to reproduction.
- High-fat diets do not generate internal heat (caused by digestion) like fiber (carbohydrates) and protein can.
- A high-fat diet can also decrease tying up or body soreness.
